I. Background Introduction
There are 9 water birds flyways over the world, the migratory water birds using the East Asian-Australasian Flyway are amongst the most threatened in the world because of the scale and pace of increasing population and economic development pressures in this region, 50% known water birds population has declined. For promote the goose research and conservation in this flyway, after the discussion of the Goose Specialist Group, the 16th annual meeting will be held in Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (RCEES), Beijing, China.
The Goose Specialist Group is the sub-organization of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN-SSC)and the Wetlands International, A major achievement of the Group is an impressive compilation (edited by Jesper Madsen, Tony Fox and Gill Cracknell) of the current knowledge of the status and distribution of the goose populations of the western palearctic. It will contribute to the scientific management of goose stock, support to national and regional policy decision, and strength the international academic communication between goose flyway researchers.
II. Meeting Themes and Objectives
The 16th meeting of Goose Specialist Group will invite specialists from European countries (UK, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Germany, France, Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, Italy, Austria, Belgium etc), Canada, USA, Russian, Australia, Asian (Japan, South Korea, Mongolia etc) and related countries or area, The major objectives relate to the current goose research, discuss about the present conservation and strategies of water birds in East Asian-Australasian Flyway. By all the key groups involved in their research and protection, a platform for more effective cooperation may be created to clarify the priority of research topics, monitoring and conservation in the future.
The themes of this meeting will be discussed and decided by the Scientific Committee after collection, the deadline of abstract submission is 1st, July, 2014. Topics may include the research fields as below:
1. Global change and anthropogenic impacts on population of wild geese, as well as those considering the interface between research and management of goose stocks.
2. Goose ecology, especially in relation to breeding biology, migration, wintering ecology and moult.
3. Goose eco-physiology, disease, parasites and contaminants.
III. Field Excursion
After the Conference meeting, an elective short term field excursionabout waterbird observation to Poyang Lakewill be organized by a travel company (Beijing Youth Travel Service Co. Ltd).The excursion will start from the afternoon of 25th till 27th November. The excursion fee will be charged separately. Please see appendix 2 for the detailed travel schedule.

· Abstracts must be submitted online.
· Please indicate whether you would like to present a poster or an oral presentation.
· Abstract will be as posts, and the Organizing Committee will select some abstracts as oral presentation.
· The Scientific Committee will decide which submissions are suitable as oral presentations and may ask you to give your presentation as a poster.
