On February 16th, 2019, a special ceremony for the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) - Elsevier Foundation Award for early career researchers was held in Washington D.C. at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Dr. Tista Prasai Joshi from the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology was one of the five awardees for Asia Pacific region. The goal of this award is to honor women scientists in the developing world for their commitment to science, mentoring and improving the lives of others in their community and regions.
In 2013, Tista Prasai Joshi was supported by the Chinese Government Scholarship and CAS President’s International Fellowship to study for a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering under the guidance of Academician Professor Jiuhui Qu and Professor Ruiping Liu at RCEES. Tista Prasai Joshi’s research focused on the performance and reaction mechanisms of arsenic pollution chemistry and the application of iron-manganese oxides for the removal of organic arsenic. Several papers from her study were published in international journals such as Water Research. She was also a winner of 2017 UCAS Excellent International Student Award.
After graduating in 2017 and returning to Nepal, Dr. Tista Prasai Joshi and her husband Dr. Dev Raj Joshi (supervised by Professor Min Yang) were both awarded the Class-I Educational Medal from the President of Nepal. She was appointed to Scientific Officer in Nepal Academy of Science and Technology and actively contributed in the field of water quality of Nepal as the member of various Government committees. In 2018, Nepal Academy of Science and Technology appreciated Tista Prasai Joshi as one of the best performing researchers in the academy.
