TWAS Programme Coordinator Visits RCEES

On May 19, Dr. Massimo Paoli, Programme Coordinator of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) visited the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences (RCEES), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Accompanied by Dr. Juan Liu, Coordinator of the International Cooperation Office, Dr. Paoli visited Sate Key Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry and Eco-toxicology, and Sate Key Laboratory of Environmental Aquatic Chemistry. He talked to a PhD student who from the developing country, asked amiably about his life, study and research work at RCEES. Dr. Paoli appreciated very much the state-of-art facilities RCEES provided and the contribution to cultivate scientific talents for the developing world. 

After visiting, a short meeting and discussion was held in the training room where CEWE annually held the Water and Sanitation Training Program for developing countries. Dr. Massimo Paoli gave an attentive reception to the presentation regarding the visions and activities CEWE dedicated to, the cooperation modes created since its establishment in 2013, and the action plans for the future. Dr. Paoli highly commented the research works and achievements to solve issues in developing countries in area of water and environment. Clean water and sanitation is one of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) published by United Nations last year as the new 2030 agenda, pointed out Dr. Paoli, what CEWE is working on in Sri Lanka, Cambodia and Bangladesh, etc., is directly in line with this agenda. Therefore, he is willing to play a role to make links for CEWE to further enhance the universal visibility and influence, to promote the exchange and collaboration with the international organizations and governments. 

Dr. Massimo Paoli is an Italian scientist. Besides CEWE, in this first trip to China, he visited three other CAS-TWAS Centers as well, Center of Excellence for Biotechnology, Center of Climate and Environmental Sciences, and Center of Green Technology. Deputy Director of CEWE, Prof. Wang DongSheng, and other staff from CEWE participated the meeting.
