Yang Min visits Cambodia

RCEES Deputy Director Yang Min led a 3-member delegation to visit Cambodia. The delegation attended the Regional Workshop on Water and Sanitation organized by the Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia (AASSA) and National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Korea from February 11-14, 2014, and had a fruitful exchanges with the experts from Korea, Cambodia, Nepal and Philippine. 

After the workshop, the delegation paid a visit to the Ministry of Industry and Handicraft in charge of water supply, and had a meeting with Mr. EK Sonn Chan, the Secretariat of State in charge of the Ministry of Industry and Handicraft and some other senior officials. Prof. Min Yang introduced the visions and general facts of RCEES, CAS and CAS-TWAS Centre of Excellence for Water and Environment (CEWE) to all the attendance. Meanwhile, he raised the possibility for cooperation with Cambodia on water supply. At the same time, Mr. EK Sonn Chan suggested some potential cooperation areas, including high turbidity water treatment, water purification agent production technology as well as the arsenic removal technology, etc. 

Both sides agreed to establish a cooperation relationship. As the first step for cooperation, the Cambodian side will organize a delegation to China to investigate the drinking water facilities, and has further exchanges with CAS on a detailed cooperation plan.
