On June 6, the UNEP launched the Fifth Global Environmental Outlook (GEO-5) Report. Professor Guibin Jiang, member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, was invited to attend the Regional Launch at Beijing as the Asia-Pacific region authors.

UNEP’s flagship Global Environment Outlook (GEO) report series keeps the state, trends and outlook of the global environment under review. GEO-5, the fifth in the series, also reviews the progress made in meeting internationally agreed goals, analyses successful policy options that have the potential for speeding up their realization, and highlights actions that both countries and the global community can take towards sustainable development. Professor Jiang and several scholars in China were invited to contribute to the Asia-Pacific Chapters.

GEO-5 was launched almost simultaneously in all regions. The global launch took place in Rio de Janiero, Brazil and the Regional launch events took place in different cities including Beijing and New Delhi. The Regional launch at Beijing was directed by Mr. Jian Liu from UNEP-IEMP. Professor Jiang highlighted the key findings of the GEO-5 and implications for Asia-Pacific, and also answered questions from medium.

Dr. Jianbo Shi from SKLECE and another two Chinese authors have also been invited to participate the event.
