Prof.QU Jiuhui delivered a speech
The final appraisal meeting and award ceremony of the 5th (2011)ORGANO (Water & Environment) Scholarship was carried out in Renaissance hotel, Suzhou – the Sino-Singapore Eco City on July 08, 2011, which means the three-month award finished successfully.
The scholarship is organized by Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences (RCEES-CAS), and co-organized by Suzhou Industrial Park Administrative Committee, ORGANO Corp and ORGANO (Suzhou) Water Treatment Co., Ltd. The goal of this scholarship is to award the prominent graduate students who engage in the science and technology research or implementation related to water quality and water environment, and to encourage the students to contribute the mission for water and environment protection.
In this year, sixty candidates including 41 PhD students and 19 master students from 25 universities and institutes applied the scholarship. The 2011 award covered two first-class, ten second-class and twenty third-class winners, respectively. Twelve candidates from RCEES-CAS, University of Science and Technology of China, Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute of CAS, Harbin Institute of Technology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, Dalian University of Technology, South China University of Technology, Shandong University and Beijing Normal University were invited to participate in the final appraisal meeting.
WU Kun from RCEES-CAS and LIU Li from University of Science and Technology of China won the top awards for the category of technology application and fundamental research, individually. TANG Chongjian from Zhejiang University and other nine candidates won the second-class awards.
The ORGANO (Water & Environment) Scholarship has been held for five terms. In terms of the number of the applicants and their affiliations in 2011, this scholarship is increasingly well recognized in China. Hiroyasu Izumi, the Consul General of Japanese Consulate in Shanghai delivered a speech in the award ceremony. Prof. QU Jiuhui, who is the chair of the judging panel, placed plenty of hope on the scholarship and indicated that the scholarship will include more and more prominent researchers and show out more and more excellent innovation talent. Meanwhile, he firmly believed that the scholarship will be an influential brand in China. Hiroyuki Uchida, the president of ORGANO Corp said ORGANO Corp will continue to support the scholarship and collaborate with other organizations to promote the scholarship to be the most influential and attractive environmental sciences award for graduate students in China.
