An expedition team led by Professor JIANG Guibin from the State Key Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology (SKLECE) made an investigation around Nyingchi, Shigatse, Lake Namco, and Everest's base camp in Tibet from May 18 to June 2. The team set two long-term research plots in Nyingchi and Everest's base camp.

This scientific investigation in Tibet-the third pole of the earth finished the integrated plot setting program of SKLECE after making investigation in Antarctic in 2009 and in Arctic in 2010. The data of persistent toxic substances (PTS) in polar regions collected by these long-term research plots will be used to reveal long range transport of PTS.

During the investigation, Professor JIANG Guibin visited Tibet University and delivered a speech on review and outlook of environmental protection and environmental sciences. In the consideration of the unique geographic condition of Tibet and its recent environmental research progress, Professor Jiang considered Tibet as a precious treasure for global environmental research. He advised that we should do more to protect the Tibet’s environment and to promote the eco-tourism for the sustainable development of Tibet.
