On July 31, 2008, Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) and Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) held a press conference to release the achievements of China's Ecosystem Services Zoning. Journalists from more than twenty national news media, including CCTV, People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency, Science Times and China Youth Daily, attended the press conference. MEP vice minister Wu Xiaoqing and CAS vice president Ding Zhongli delivered important speeches.　
Vice Minister Wu Xiaoqing noted that the principal aims of this press conference were to broadly publicize the Ecosystem Services Zoning, raise the eco-environmental awareness of the whole society, especially the consciousness of officials in the Party and Government to act in compliance with objective laws, comprehensively incorporate "the scientific outlook on development" into daily work, firmly implant in mind the concept of ecological culture, promote a historic shift of environmental conservation, and spur a good fast development of economy.　
Vice President Ding Zhongli pointed out that the Ecosystem Services Zoning was orientated towards national strategic needs and world frontiers of science, and it was an important innovative achievement accomplished with the cooperation of MEP and CAS on the foundation of accumulated results in ecology researches. Ding said that the Ecosystem Services Zoning was consistent with the requirements of national environmental protection and the actual situation in China. He also commended that the zoning directly met the strategic requirements of regional sustainable development in China and that it was also a significant scientific basis and prerequisite of national ecological security and an important step toward promoting scientific development of a harmonious society and ecological culture.　
Director Wan Benli, Department of Nature and Ecology Conservation of MEP, Director Fu Bojie, Bureau of Science and Technology for Resources and the Environment of CAS, and Prof. Ouyang Zhiyun, Technical Superintendent of the Ecosystem Services Zoning, answered journalists’ questions about the significance, function and application of the zoning.　
Under the joint sponsorship of MEP and CAS, the Ecosystem Services Zoning was accomplished by researchers from the State Key Laboratory of Urban and Regional Ecology in the Research Center for Eco-environmental Sciences after six years of hard work. The successful convening of the press conference marked a fruitful conclusion of the zoning work. The promulgation and implementation of the Ecosystem Services Zoning will lay a scientific foundation for promoting sustainable regional development and national eco-environmental conservation.
