Research Interest

Frequent anthropogenic activities result in both rapidly changing environments and numerous pollutants released/introduced into environments. I have broad research interests associated with these rapid changes in environments, particularly with respect to aquatic ecosystems. Generally, I utilize genetics and genomics tools, as well as other biological, chemical and environmental approaches, to answer fundamental questions mainly in 1) Invasion Biology & Conservation Biology: mechanisms/dynamics of dispersal, colonization and persistence of invasive species in difference environments; 2) Evolutionary Biology: genetic mechanisms of rapid evolution and local adaption in harmful species (including both native and non-native) during transport, introduction, establishment, spread and outbreak; 3) Plankton Biology & Ecology: impacts of environmental stressors (biological pollutants such as harmful species and chemical pollutants such as pesticides) on biodiversity and community functioning.
