Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Saudi Water Authority

On the afternoon of June 8, a five-member delegation led by Tariq Alghaffari, Deputy President of the Saudi Water Authority (SWA), visited the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences (RCEES), Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS), both sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and held discussions.

Hang Xu, Deputy Director of the RCEES, welcomed the delegation. He reviewed the history of bilateral collaboration, noting that the ongoing deepening of China-Saudi relations offers broad prospects for cooperation in the field of eco-environmental sciences. He expressed hope that both sides would take this signing as an opportunity to further complement each other’s strengths, deepen institutional cooperation, and inject new momentum into the sustainable development of the ecological environment in both countries.

Tariq Alghaffari spoke highly of the RCEES’s scientific achievements. He stated that the visit had given him a more intuitive and profound understanding of the RCEES’s extensive expertise in water environment and related fields. He looked forward to future collaboration with RCEES in areas such as seawater desalination technology innovation, water resource management optimization, and smart water platform development, with the goal of sharing experiences and achieving mutual benefits.

In the concluding remarks, Chengzhi Hu, Deputy Director of the RCEES,emphasized that the signing marked an important starting point for bilateral cooperation. Going forward, both sides will focus on strengthening joint research platforms, establishing regular personnel exchange and dialogue mechanisms, and continuously deepening practical cooperation in water treatment technologies and sustainable water resource utilization. The two parties will work together to promote the demonstration and commercialization of research outcomes in both China and Saudi Arabia, contributing a "China-Saudi solution" to regional and global water and environmental sustainability.

Following the discussion, Chengzhi Hu and Tariq Alghaffari signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Saudi Water Authority on behalf of their respective organizations.

The signing of this MoU marks the formal establishment of an institutional partnership between the two sides, ushering in a new phase of mechanism-based and platform-driven cooperation, and laying an important foundation for deepening China-Saudi scientific and technological collaboration in eco-environmental and sustainable development fields.

Nearly 20 scientific research and management personnel from both countries witnessed the signing and participated in the exchange activities.
