Department of Environmental Nano-materials is a newly established research department under the RCEES’s Knowledge Innovation System. This department is aiming to link international and national outstanding researchers and carry out world leading studies in environmental nano-materials.
The mission of research department is:
1. to conduct fundamental and applied research in environmental nanomaterials;
2. to develop innovative nano technologies for environmental remediation and protections;
3. to provide the national level research training in Eco-materials and environmental protection;
4. to establish strong linkages with leading international research groups, and advance RCEES as the first-class research institute in this field.
The department research programs focus on:
(1) Environmental nanomaterials: The novel synthesis, characterization and applications of environmental nanomaterials, such as nanoporous and nanocomposite materials, zeolite and pillared clays. Such nanomaterials possess improved properties and unique functionalities and can be used as ideal adsorbents, catalysts and sensors.
(2) New principle and technology for natural water pollution control, including toxic algal bloom control, water quality improvement, sediment remediation, aquatic ecological restoration, and green house sequestration.
(3) Metastable Equilibrium Adsorption (MEA) theory; "initial concentration effect” for adsorption reactions; development of synchrotron experimental and DFT calculation methods to study pollutant molecular structures on wet solid surfaces; biogeochemical cycling of phosphorus (especially P sorption processes); interfacial property and transport mechanisms of PFOS in aquatic environment; interfacial nanobubbles and its applications for pollution control.
(4) Environmental effects and health care: environmental effects of nano particles and nano-materials, biomaterials and clean industrial production.
(5) Eco-materials and control technology, Solid waste reuse and nanomaterials, Characterization and detection of nanomaterials.
The establishment of this research department is to lead and catalyze the comprehensive research in nano materials and nano-technologies for the environmental applications in RCEES, CAS. Now we are warmly inviting researchers and students to join us who have the solid background and relevant skills, and plan to build your research career in the environmental nanomaterials and nanotechnologies.
